If i would rate ZERO i would. Before verbally accepting a role provided by this agency, and handing in your notice with your current company, ensure you get sight of the contract and read through the T&Cs in detail. This agency does not act on behalf of the contractor / applicant and acts more in the interest of the company they are recruiting for.

I received a contract on the evening before i was due to start work, and their excuse was that they needed to wait until the security checks had been completed. I was then being asked to sign up to an unfairly balanced contract, with the agency asking me whats the worst that could happen if i did not work the 4 weeks notice for this interim role. Breech of contract, possible court action (low risk), reputational damage such as no further work being provided by this agency and unlikely to be asked back to the company i had left.

They should know this, so its very concerning they even had to ask. But they just consider the short term for them, however as a contractor / interim worker you must consider the long term. Whilst friendly enough, its only when you get into the contractual negotiations that its clear where their priorities lie. Ensure that your contract is a) provided to you in enough time to review the details and ask questions b) sent to you in enough time to check it for IR35 compliancy (if an interim worker) an c) equally balanced in terms of notice of termination between you are the contractor / applicant and the company you are planning on working for.

This issue with Pytec IT Recruitment, meant that i am now back searching the job market, when i could have stayed at my last contract. So please don't fall into the same trap as i did, and get a copy of the contract well before you are due to begin (chasing the agency if necessary), raise any concerns immediately and don't compromise on your principles, ensuring you think of the long term and the impact on your if you accept an unfairly balanced contract.

I have worked with Pytec in regards to a couple of opportunities in the past, of which I was successful in one and unsuccessful in another. In both situations the consultants looked after me and judging from the way the prospective employers spoke to me, the consultants were talking about me in a favorable way and conveying my wishes to the companies. If and when I am looking for work in the future, I will be contacting Pytec to assist me.
