So, my partner and I finally got a week away. We went to Tavistock, which is a beautiful town, lots of small friendly shop. The locals are also very friendly. We walked past this shop (De La Torres) and I spied some little Italian pastries in the window - having tried these in Italy, I was keen for my partner to try some. I put one foot through the door and the man behind the counter immediately barked, have you got a face covering?
I told him I did and put it on straight away. However, he had already walked away and was shuffling around in a back room, completely ignoring me. After a minute or two, he returned, and I asked him for six of the little, delicate pastries. He grabbed a paper bag and started to roughly throw the pastries in! I passed him a ten pound note to pay, and he rudely and very sharply barked that he only accepted cards.
No eye contact, no customer service, at all! By this time, I was actually disgusted by the whole event, and more so by his total lack of respect for his customer and the product he was trying to sell. So, I decided to keep my money and left. The little man stood in his shop window and glared at me. I have never been treated so disgustingly, and it's such a shame, as EVERY other shop we visited in Tavistock had such lovely staff/owners, they all took cash and none of them INSISTED we wore face coverings. Having looked into this shop, it would seem that I am not the only one who has been unfortunate with this person.
I have also just had a message on facebook suggesting that I am a coward and that I hide on the internet. Well Mr Swarbrick, I am far from a coward and this review is based my genuine experience in your shop.

Great food & great produce. The freshly prepared meals are fantastic and a real treat. I love all the little extras that elevate the meal, they are well thought out and really add to the experience. I recommend this place to all my guests in my holiday cottages. The owners have always been polite & informative - but also super busy and trying to keep a business going in difficult circumstances: like many of us.

This is a tricky review. 5 stars for the food quality and flavour. 1 star for service. I adore all of the products, the quality and taste is second to none. If you love food please buy here. However. The man that works in the shop is hands down the rudest, most unpleasant shopkeeper with the worst attitude I have ever come across, on so many occasions he's made me feel and I've witnessed him treating other patrons like they are the biggest inconvenience in the world.
Come on, we are what keeps the business viable. If there was a decent online alternative I'd never set foot in there again, unless the lovely lady who is sometimes front and centre was alone in the shop. The short review is if you can deal with the attitude go for it, the food is incredible

What an interesting Man. I guess he was the proprietor as he was very proud of his produce, and to be honest, so was I. Watched the first customer having a well spoken (word and) argument about politics (as we do at moment). My turn. (I couldn't compete, but, observed his purchase. A big bowl of mixed olives. A bit of everything, as long as the same price). "upper lip Up" I said: the same, young man.
This Shop has a more than usual variety of olives and anything the Mediterranean Countries can pickle. Pasta from Italy. Jars of sauce, you name it! I believe he will have. Bit more pricey than the local supermarket, but far far tastier. Worth coming in. (And am sure the owner won't mind x go next door for some cheese to go with your olives.)
